Accomplishments

2023

  • Continued with Ballet Folklorico Infantil de Arcata classes at Redwood Raks/Arcata Playhouse (8 students) and started classes twice a week at Pacific Union School through their Boys & Girls Club After School Program (10 students)

  • Received a second Save the Redwoods League Grant for Family Adventures in the Redwoods - taking English Learner families from various schools across the County to Cal Poly Humboldt, CR and Botanical Gardens, Sequoia Park and Zoo, Rohner Park, Humboldt Redwoods State Park, and Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park (100th anniversary)

  • Received a Humboldt Sponsors Grant to send four Latinx children from Washington Elementary to the Sequoia Park Zoo summer camp for two weeks. The Sequoia Zoo donated another scholarship for one extra student to attend for two weeks.

  • Received a grant from the Northcoast Coop to give 10 Latinx children one-on-one swim lessons (10 sessions each) at Healthsport in Arcata

  • The Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom donated $500 for a bilingual playgroup to be held in an unserved neighborhood of northern Arcata where the majority of Latinx children live

  • Received a Humboldt Area Foundation Summer mini grant to extend the time period for the bilingual playgroup to 15 weeks

  • Wildberries donated spare change received towards CUMBRE Humboldt at the checkout counter from April - June 2023 ($150)

  • In the Spring of 2023 distributed 10 Reach Your Star awards to dedicated Latinx students planning to attend UC Berkeley, Sonoma State, Cal Poly Humboldt, and CR

  • Facilitated the distribution of $2000 worth of scholarships to MEChA Club members from Fortuna Union High School

  • Distributed 26 Chromebooks to Eureka City School English Learner students

  • Serving on the Eureka City Schools’ Community School Advisory Council

  • Served on the Core Planning Committee for the Festejando Nuestra Comunidad, held on the College of the Redwood campus on Sept. 16, 2023

  • Tabled at the Festejando Nuestra Comunidad event

  • Connected 19+ students with CovEd tutors

2022

  • Continued with Ballet Folklorico Infantil de Arcata classes at the Arcata Playhouse

  • Received a Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom grant to help pay for Ballet Folklorico outfits for the dancers

  • Distributed 13 $500 Reach Your Star awards to deserving local Latinx students attending CR, Cal Poly Humboldt, Sacramento State University, and UC Davis

  • Received a Save the Redwoods League Grant for Family Adventures in the Redwoods - took English Learner families from Pacific Union, Alice Birney, Loleta Elementary, and Linell Walker Elementary (Fortuna) on four bilingual field trips each to Cal Poly Humboldt, CR and Botanical Gardens, Sequoia Park and Zoo, Headwaters Forest Reserve, and Grizzly Creek State Park

  • Received an Arcata Foundation grant to conduct an Informal Playgroup for 0-5 year old Latinx children in Valley West, Arcata

  • Facilitated the distribution of $2000 worth of scholarships to MEChA Club members from Fortuna Union High School

  • Connected 20 students with CovEd tutors

2021

  • Acquired 30 Chromebooks from the Humboldt Area Foundation and distributed them to Latinx families in Fortuna, Loleta, Eureka, and Arcata

  • Distributed seven $500 Reach Your Star awards to deserving local Latinx students attending UC Berkeley, College of the Redwoods (CR), and Humboldt State University (HSU)

  • Gave scholarships to 7 Latinx youngsters to attend the City of Arcata’s Marsh Camp for one week

  • Worked with an HSU intern who looked into English Learner Advisory Committees at schools across the County

  • Collaborated with the Save the Redwoods League in the design and execution of their Summer in the Redwoods events in Arcata and Fortuna

  • Recruited 6 students for the HSU TRIO Program

  • In collaboration with Pacific Union’s District English Learner Advisory Council, sponsored the Ballet Folklorico Infantil de Arcata Dance Group - 6 children participated

  • Worked with HSU students from a Senior Practicum class to strategize the creation of a Family/Community Resource Center in Valley West, Arcata

  • Connected 25 students with CovEd tutors

2020

  • Conducted an online College Information session in Spanish

  • Acquired $20,000 from the Humboldt Area Foundation to develop a Tutores program that connected 35 HSU Latinx tutors with 11 Pacific Union School students for 14 weeks

  • Used the CovEd website to connect 31 students with tutors from across the country

2019

  • Established CUMBRE Humboldt as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit

  • Helped plan Convivio event for Humboldt students with Humboldt State University’s El Centro
